Episode 46: Fiber for Complex Restorations

About This Course

You will earn 0.5 hours of CE. Dr. David Rudo, inventor of Ribbond, discusses his reasoning for the development and use of Ribbond in modern conservative dentistry. Ribbond has become a strong pillar in the realm of biomimetic dentistry, allowing dentists to avoid aggressive treatment and preserve as much tooth structure and vitality as possible. While Ribbond’s initial uses include long-span long-term implant bridges and periodontal splinting, Dr. Rudo forecasts Ribbond’s primary future use as a component of composite restorations. Ultimately, Dr. Rudo believes that ““Ribbond is a tool that will let the inquisitive mind determine how something should be treated.” In this course, you will take a quiz per each episode of the dental digest podcast and then obtain CE credit. CE Objectives & What you Will Learn

  1. Dentists are primarily familiar with Ribbond’s use in bridges, retainers, and periodontal splinting; however, in this lesson you will learn that Ribbond has been found to be an excellent tool to aid in increasing mechanical retention and maximizing retained tooth structure.
  2. While cracked teeth are often quickly condemned by dentists, you will understand why Ribbond has been proven as an effective method in preventing crack propagation and reducing sensitivity.
  3. Discover that Ribbond has effectively eliminated the need for cast posts, prefabricated fiber posts, and crown placement following root canal therapy, as Ribbond can be used to line the walls of the root canal, thus aiding in the mechanical retention of large bonded resin restorations.
  4. Learn how Ribbond can be applied with flowable composite on the pulpal floor of high C-factor restorations, such as a deep Class I, prior to bulk filling with resin composite to minimize the pulling effects of polymerization shrinkage on post-operative sensitivity and cuspal fracture.

About the Speakers

Dr. David Rudo is featured on episode 46 of the Dental Digest Podcast. His research in the use of fiber reinforcement to solve the problem of structural failure of dental resin and composite resin restorations, prostheses, and appliances culminated in the development of Ribbond bondable reinforcement ribbon. click here to learn more about Dr. Rudo.
